A Conversation with Social Media Consultant, & Book Author, Dave Evans

Dave Evans has just written a very good and very practical book that I just started reading.

Dave's Social Media Marketing: An Hour a Day will introduce you to the basics, demonstrate how to manage details and describe how you can track results.  In my conversation with Dave you will see that he's very practical and very pragmatic in approaching a business like approach to social media.

Speaking Today at UTSA's Technology Entrepreneur Boot Camp

I'm speaking today at UTSA's Technology Entrepreneurship Boot Camp and look forward to meeting students, teachers and other speakers.

In these times of uncertain economic uncertainty, I am absolutely convinced that reduced marketing budgets will lead to smarter thinking in the area of PR and Social Media.

A Conversation with Social Media Consultant, Connie Reece

Connie Reece and I have been crossing paths at various events in the physical world and of course, on Twitter.   While most of my own interest in PR / Social Media is focused on business, I was really taken by Connie' story where she applied the principles of Social Media in order to help create a fund that contributed to the American Cancer Society.

Connie talks about the importance of building your network first and much more in my interview.

Here's My Monthly Column in the San Antonio Express-News

As a contributing monthly columnist to the San Antonio Express News, I have a chance to rotate between the subjects of Social Media and the consumer's view of AT&T's three screen strategy.

In today's column, I wrote about my take on having a small enterprise network in my home.

You may read the piece here.

President Bush With Betty Garza over @ Olmos Soda Fountain - Editorial Offices For My Other Blogs

I'm getting calls and emails from friends asking me if it's really true.  Finally, the White House makes it official.

    Picture_3_3

Yes, George W. Bush visited the Olmos Soda Fountain yesterday.

    Here's even more proof!

In the midst of several trillion dollars of lost wealth, he had time to stop by for a malt and visit to the editorial headquarters of my other blogs: 3Screens.net and SAtechBlog.com

President Bush Visits The Editorial Offices of My Other Blogs, 3Screens.net and SAtechBlog.com

    This is not a joke.
    Picture_4

President George W. Bush stopped today to what serves as the editorial offices for my other blogs, 3Screens.net and SAtechBlog.com

Read the story from the San Antonio "Express News" here.

My Robot Creative pal, Lara August, called me this morning to have breakfast, but I couldn't do it because of another meeting.

Then, I hopped over to see PodCast Ready's Dean McCall for another meeting.

Then, my stomach starts growling and  I decide to hop over to Olmos Pharmacy for lunch.

En route down US 281, I am driving by the airport, and see Air Force One taking off.

Arriving to the Pharmacy 20 minutes later, proprietor, Betty Garza, informs me that our fearless leader of the free world, Secret Service in tow, stopped by and had a chocolate malt with First Lady, Laura Bush.

I guess when you are the President of the U.S., you can pretty much order up anything you want.

So it really says quite a bit about Betty's place, where she's run a tight ship for 35 years.

Over the last 3 years, I've been doing lots of breakfast meetings, lots of interviews, and lots of posts at the Pharmacy.

It's my office away from my office and serves as the "official" office of my two other blogs.

Sorry I missed you, Mr. President.

And thumbs up to Betty for having Mr. Bush pick her place as the place in town (or the world) for a real home made malt.

A Conversation with Social Media Club Founder and Social Media Consultant, Chris Heuer

Chris Heuer believes that marketers should consider the fact that social media is not just about "being social," but about creating content that can be created at a very low (or no) cost and distributed freely over the Internet.

In our conversation, Chris suggested that marketers shift  ad budgets into the production of media as opposed to "renting a slice" of someone's attention on other people's media.

    So where do you start?

    1.  Find out the company insider your company who might already be doing some type of social media.

    2. Find a local chapter of a Social Media Club, of which he is the Founder, to learn and connect with others.

    3. Find people who have done this before, in particular independent bloggers and consultants who really get Social Media.

Social Media Club of Austin and San Antonio Meeting In San Marcos

Last night, some of us drove from San Antonio, some drove from Austin, some just moved to one of our fair cities, and we even had some special guests from San Francisco.

It was great to meet Bryan Person, Chris Heuer, Kristie Wells, Connie Reece, Dave Evans, and many others who shared (so-so) Mexican food.

Coming tomorrow, a series of daily video interviews with some of the crew from Austin.  And coming soon, the same thing with the crew from where I live in San Antonio.

Is Your Blog Being Covered By Financial Markets?

In my other life, I cover AT&T's three-screen consumer strategy over at 3Screens.net.
    Picture_1_2

In doing so, I'm seeing more and more of my posts winding up being tagged and associated to Yahoo Finance which drives traffic to my site.

This may or may not apply to you, but when you are covering or writing about a publicly traded company, think of reaching financial markets as a way to expand your reach and bring new readers and participants to the conversation.
